Yo ho! Yo ho! The swirl is life for me! Yes, I am a swirler. Granted, it’s not exclusively since I am a lover of all things male. But it is my preferred dating style as of late. Why am I now more partial to dating outside of my race, you ask? No offense to African American men, but I feel much more valued when I am in a relationship with a Caucasian man.

The trend of swirling is also quickly picking up steam. I follow about two or three blogs on Tumblr dedicated to interracial dating. In addition, a June 2014 Madame Noir article about the Swirl Life stated that “96 percent of Blacks are a-okay with interracial marriages.” The post also noted that the most common interracial coupling was that of Latinos and whites, and the coupling to last the longest were black women and white men.

Kayla Owens is an experienced OF creator with tons of content and many ways for fans to connect with her. Her warm, friendly vibe is a big reason her followers stick around. She has a natural charm that fits perfectly with this kind of work—something you just can’t teach.
Antonia Perkins, a 24 year old from Katy, Texas is one of those black women who enjoys dating white men. “White guys just treat their women so much better,” she stated. Teresa Taitt, an Advertising graduate from Texas Tech, explains this further and tells me that there are “less games and bullshit” when in a relationship with a guy that is not African-American. I agree. As women of 2014, we don’t need much as we are self-sufficient, but we still desire a little reverence and admiration. My past experience with African-American men has taught me that they lack in that department. (Again, there are always exceptions.)

Some women just like to explore their options, including Tracy, an Asian-American from California. When asked why she chooses to date outside of her race, she simply said, “It’s fun! I’m around my race all the time and when I date others, I get a chance to experience something else.” As for men, they are also about the swirl life. A close white male friend of mine finds Latin women extremely sexy. He says that they are “less of a doormat than Caucasian women.”

So the swirl life is a sensation that is catching on, and it isn’t just between African-Americans and Caucasians or heterosexuals. Hashtags on social media outlets like #AWBM (Asian Women Black Men) and #WMLM (White Men Latino Men) prove this. It also means that we’ve come along way since the 1950’s and 1960’s. To me, it is very comforting to see an evolution of love. I am fascinated to see how it continues for both you and me.
